Many Veteran, Seniors, Disabled and those living in low to moderate income households and underserved communities are finding it difficult to afford essential daily living needs. There are many common health problems associated with aging and being disabled.
Our research shows that one common health problem they face is urinary and or fecal (bowel) incontinence. Incontinence occurs when urine or fecal matter is leaked by accident, and it is more common with older people. AHHC will help seniors and the disabled to live and cope with incontinence by providing them with adult underwear (diapers) at no cost. Adult underwear has proven to be a very helpful solution for incontinence. It also helps avoid embarrassing situations and can lead to a more normal life. Inflation has caused adult underwear to become much more expensive, making it less affordable for those on fixed income.
A second common health problem Veterans, Seniors and Disabled people face is malnutrition. While malnutrition is harmful at any age, it impacts older adults especially hard. When an older adult is malnourished, it leaves them vulnerable to increased risk of falling, slower recovery times, hospitalizations, re-hospitalizations, and possibly death. Malnutrition in older adults can be caused by a variety of factors, including depression, dementia, chronic diseases, and lack of access to optimally nutritious food, whether due to food insecurity, not having enough money to buy healthy foods or a lack of ability to prepare and/or shop for food. Our community outreach program will address malnutrition by providing meal supplements like Boost or Ensure to meet this need.
A third common health concern for older adults or disabled individuals is loneliness. They are at increased risk for loneliness and social isolation because they are more likely to face factors such as living alone, the loss of family or friends, chronic illness, and hearing loss. AHHC will address this health concern by providing educational materials such as puzzles, and word games to name a few. Educational materials are tools that can be used for continued learning and to stimulate the mind. Stimulating the mind can have many health benefits such as, maintaining and improving memory, cognitive skills, and overall health. Utilizing educational materials can also maximize the use of their time and serve as a companion. Limited use of the mind can lead to boredom, loneliness and depression.
For many years the founder of AHHC has used personal funds to purchase, package and deliver essential daily living need products to Seniors, Veterans and Disabled people who are in need. AHHC resources will allow her to continue providing essential daily living products to thousands living in low to moderate income households and underserved communities.
We have also found that many aging and disabled individuals are finding it difficult to afford in-home care. This forces them to rely on family members or relatives who are not professional caregivers to provide this care. This has become a major burden physically and financially for many family members serving as caregivers for loved ones. AHHC will help as many families as we can receive affordable in-home care by subsidizing the cost for qualified individuals. We will partner with state and local government agencies to meet this need. The availability of funds for this program will be based on the amount of revenue raised through donations, contributions and other activities.
